I hope I’m uploading this in the correct thread.. I had posted about a little mixed rooster on here a while back wondering his species, well let’s just say I’m on the verge of wanting him gone. I live with my brothers and dad still, and none of them have any issues with this rooster. However he CONSTANTLY attacks me. Today was my last straw…

I knelt down cause something was on my leg, and next thing you know my heads gushing blood from both sides!! That little … BUTTHOLE attacked my head!!! He always gets my legs and I’ve had to resort to carrying a large shovel in front of them when letting out the birds to protect them.. this rooster will follow me and when I turn around he starts scratching and pecking at the ground…? Then if I get too close by just a bit, he attacks me. He will not attack or follow ANYONE BUT ME. I have never done anything to provoke this behavior from him. Idk what to do! Why does he hate me?? I’m literally the one who raised him too. I’ve NEVER had a rooster attack me. Everyone I’ve ever had was friendly.. I guess it’s good the rooster does its job protecting the hens but why attack me! What can I do?? Is there a way to train roosters… lol!

(I know roosters generally aren’t the nicest but I mainly wanna know why me specifically…)

Sounds like he has it in for you. I would of done the deed right then and there and cooked him up for Sunday dinner. You probably won't have issues finding another nicer rooster in your area to replace him, if you want/need to replace him. I know it's hard when you raise them with so much care but really, it's a lot less upsetting when they do what he did to you.

My cockerel tries to attack my dad too but has been okay with me, my sisters and even the kids but I make sure they don't get too close. Last time my dad tried to pet him and he pecked his arm and drew blood. Told my dad to stop trying to pet him lol. I'm hoping in my case he will chill out but if he ever attacks me he'll be a goner! He's being giving iffy vibes lately with the constant following and circling my feet. I've got 4 other younger cockerels to pick from if the first one doesn't work out so no big deal.

I'm so sorry. Ugh. Roosters are one of those animals where I love, but try not to trust. And this from someone who had a rooster as a favorite childhood pet! An attack to the face while occupied with feed/water/egg gathering/hen health is one of my biggest concerns.

They can be unpredictable and I do believe they hold a grudge, for whatever reasons a chicken might. Perceived threat to their social status in the flock, perceived danger, even just perceived weakness. Just theorizing as I can't really ask my chickens directly, but they seem to extend chicken social behaviors onto humans at times. If you weren't around, I wouldn't be surprised if he began to target whatever human in his chicken brain made the next best target in an attempt to climb in dominance. I had one who hated only men, but he'd try to mate women's shoes. Both were painful. I wouldn't tolerate that now as I realize how dangerous it was. You can 💯 get a better rooster; it isn't you, it's him.

He needs to be dinner like yesterday. Usually roosters will go after women and children first due to them being smaller usually. Regardless I wouldn't give him a chance to start going after you or anyone else again, you're lucky he didn't take out your eye, people have lost eyes to mean roosters

Haha we don’t eat our birds otherwise I would.. we plan to get rid of him tho. If the next person eats him then well! Not our business…

I had to cull a rooster. His flogging me put him on my list, then he was very rough trying to mate with a broody feeding her chicks. When I witnessed him going after little chicks with murderous intent that was the final straw. He took a dirt nap within ten minutes. Jerk.
