Hi everyone,
My neighbors has these chickens that have kind of become mine.
It is a rooster and a hen which had 3 beautiful baby chicks and the neighbor introduced a new hen and now the mother is awol and he says she’s laying eggs but when she comes to my yard because this is where they spend the whole day at
He fluffs his feathers and bows his head like he wants to fight and they run her away.
I don’t understand why the change in attitude when he got along so well with her before the new hen came.
im very new with chickens so any help would be great! Thank you!!

I agree, it sounds like he's trying to protect her. I would worry if he's pecking her allot or keeping her away from food. He can't tell her when he's trying to protect her so he had to do it through motions. Sometimes they make a loud gutteral noise as well to let their flock know they are entering a danger zone

Thank you!
what should I do though becusee she comes to the yard every couple of days to eat and the rest of the time she’s home with the eggs.
She comes to my yard to look for food and water and to take a dust bath but also the other hens is mean to her when she does come

You can't do anything that I can think of. It's the way of the chicken. Have you discussed your concerns with the owner?
