Rooster Bone Fracture? Exposed Marrow? I can't tell

Hi everyone, I'm Claire, my baby is Stretch, and he's a 3-4 year old house rooster - he's coddled and snuggled and has a closet coop in our craft room.

About a week ago I noticed that a part of one wing seemed to be sticking out a bit more than usual, I thought maybe he had a swollen joint or...something, I don't know a lot about chickens (we rescued Stretch as a chick and knew nothing about chickens at the time, and he hasn't had any health issues until now)

Last night it seemed to have developed a...jagged flap, like the top cracked and bone marrow or something seems to be exposed, it's dark and not actively bleeding. There's been no blood at all, and his behavior seems completely normal.

Also, if anyone is curious how he could get injured if he's just snuggled in a house all the time, we did recently get a larger rooster and learned that they don't like each other very much. They got into a few scraps and we now keep them separate, but as far as I know their last fight was at least a month ago.

If anyone's experienced anything similar please let me know, I bought some poultry wound antiseptic spray but other than that I don't know how to deal with it, and I don't have a ton of extra money to be able to take him to the vet right now.

Thank you!

Welcome To BYC

Can you get some more photos of the area of concern, well lit if possible, have some someone shine some light on the area.

I may change my mind, but from what I can see, it looks like an impacted feather follicle.
There's a scab or a bit of skin hanging and inside the swelling is a feather, does that sound about right?

There does seem to be some kind of scabby bit on top, and it's hard to tell if it's a feather inside, it just looks black - should I try to pull it out myself?

If Vet Care is an option, that's always best.

Otherwise, yes...
If he were mine, I'd see if I could clean it out.

Swab the area with Chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) or similar antiseptic. Take clean/sterilized tweezers and perhaps a needle, work slow and see if you can pull any material out of the wound. If necessary, apply some warm compresses to help soften up the lump. It may have some hardened pus in there too along with a feather and follicle. Once you're satisfied it's all cleaned out, flush inside the hole/wound with your antiseptic, then put a dab of triple antibiotic ointment in there. Monitor daily. It's possible it will need to be cleaned out again, hard to know.

If you do end up pulling something out of there, please post photos of what you find.
