I have a large-ish flock with a couple of roos in it, one of them (a Jersey Giant) will stand on the little ladder that lets the hens get to their nesting boxes and he'll stand there whenever hens are laying making sort of a purring sound? im not sure what this means and it would be great to hear any advice if i should do anything or not

I think he's being supportive. I have a rooster that gives his ladies bit of straw when they are laying eggs, and makes noises at them. You have a good rooster. :D
