We have a beautiful fizzle rooster and I like him a lot for breeding .but we do not need fertile eggs right now is it ok to put him into a separate cage by himself for now? Or will he become depends?

Sorry I mean upset being alone?spell check will be my down fall.

Why would you put him alone? Fertilized eggs are inactive until held at about 100 degrees for about 24 hours...... nothing happens until that point in time. They are completely edible, and frankly a little tricky to recognize. Probably most people have eaten them without knowing.

Chickens are flock animals, and should be kept in an established flock. Removing them and reintroducing them upsets the flock dynamics and will put the flock in flux until a new pecking order is developed.

I think he will be healthier in the flock. I keep mine for flock management in addition to fertilized eggs.

Ok so it's better to leave him. I do not want him upset or the girls. I just have never had a rooster before. Thank you:thumbsup

I wouldn't put him alone, definitely not in a cage. Chickens are very social and at very least he needs someone with him. Keep him with the hens, he'll protect them and fertile eggs are completely edible, indistinguishable from unfertilized.
