I everybody! I have a couple questions regarding roosters.

We bought our first ever, six chickens last month. Looks like one is turning into quite a handsome rooster, unfortunately, because we only wanted hens.

But we do like him, even though he doesn't seem to care much for us & stays well away from us when we're interacting with the other chickens, LOL. We definitely want to keep him, but...

What do we do with him if we don't want a million baby chicks running around?

Do we keep him in with the chickens and just collect eggs as usual, even though they may be fertilized? Do we keep him in his OWN coop?

What do you do with your roosters??

Unless you incubate the eggs or allow the hens to do so, there will never be 'a million baby chicks running around'. Collect eggs daily and use them just like any other egg.

You can keep him with your flock. They only way that you will have a bunch of babies running around is if the eggs are incubated. They must be kept at a constant 100 degrees for several days for development to even begin. You can eat fertilized eggs just like you would infertile eggs.
