How often does a rooster need to cover a hen to produce fertilized eggs? I guess my question is does each egg need to be fertilized? So if the hen produces one egg a day then the rooster must cover her everyday? At what point in egg development is the egg fertilized? How long does the hen produce fertilized eggs after being covered by a rooster?

Once a rooster mates with a hen, her eggs can be fertilized for up to 10 days. I have heard of longer, but the number of days could also be shorter. It also depends on your rooster. However, they do not need to mate for every egg that is laid.
