Rooster crowing.

I was gonna say the no crow collars basically choke the rooster every time he raises his head to crow. Some members have had them strangle their birds. So they aren't "harmless".

I’m going to try out the no-crow collar first. If it doesn’t work I’m then going to give him away. However, he is not the friendliest rooster, so I do not know how I am going to get him off the ground to put the collar on. Any advice on how to do that?

If you can't readily handle(pick him up) the bird, I would not put a collar on him.
Collars can indeed be dangerous and need to be monitored closely and adjusted frequently until they are working correctly and you are positively sure it is not impeding the birds ability to breath, eat, and drink.
