at what age does a rooster start to crow? I bought a 15 week old roo for my girls. I thought he would be crowing up a storm by now but not a peep. btw it's a RIR if that makes a differnce

I'm sure it depends on the breed. I had a white leghorn and he crowed at 5 weeks.

I have a RIR and he didnt start crowing till he was about 19 weeks. The first time he crowed it was horrible, but after a week he sounded like a normal rooster

. I would give him a few more weeks he should be crowing soon

Our light brahmas didn't start crowing until they were almost 4 months old. They still don't crow much (they are only about 4.5 months now, I think) and still sound like they have sore throats, lol.

Roos can start crowing when they are a couple weeks or even days old. Or they could wait till they are 8 months old or older. It's very individual.
