Rooster Died

My son has 6 chickens and 1 rooster, recently we woke up to the rooster dead. We are very green at this and have no idea what could have happened. The only thing we can think of may have been a clue is that he hasn't been crowing for a week or so. I would assume that means he was sick. How do I know and how do I know that the chickens won't get sick too. They have no other contact with any other chickens whatsoever. Can someone give us some insight before we get another rooster.

This won't be helpful at all, but without any obvious sign of illness or injury, you may never know. Sometimes chickens just up and die for no apparent reason.

I agree that you may never know. Just have to keep an extra watchful eye on the flock.

It's hard to keep an eye on all of them. You get complacent with them thinking its all good. Sorry, for your loss.
