Rooster favoring one hen

I have a rooster and for a bit he was mounting all 11 hens. But then he tapered off. We didn't really notice to be honest just figured we weren't catching him. Then we noticed one hen in particular getting her back all tore up. I did some research here and elsewhere that said it was the rooster favoring her. Then she hurt her foot and we moved her to a sick pen to get better. Well he became super aggressive and started attacking us. We didn't put two and two together until we put her back and he wouldn't leave her side. Then he started mounting her right away. Now he seems happier (not attacking us) but that is the only hen he will mount.
Is this normal? What can we do to encourage him to mate with all the hens not just the one? I'm going to get her a saddle or make one hopefully soon because as soon as we put her back her back is getting torn up again :(. Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

That's really common. You're doing the right thing by getting her a hen saddle. I'm sure he will "get with" the other hens at one time or another. Are you wanting babies? Alot of people think you have to have the rooster to get the eggs, and that's not true. Hens will just be laying infertile eggs.

So unless you're breeding for baby chicks, it's really nothing to worry about if he only likes one special gal.

We are hopeful that eventually one of our hens will show signs of being broody and we can have baby chicks. It's not a big deal right now as none of them seem to be broody. I also read that they won't until after they are a year old and ours won't be a year until October. Although our bantam seems a little broody. Anyway off subject, sorry. Thanks. I ordered an apron and it should be here in a week or two.
