I have a mean white leghorn rooster. I really want to separate him but my parents are educators, so the family is really busy. They aren't ready to put in the work to build a bachlore pad. But I feel if I was the one paying, and I found something I could set up pretty much by myself they might agree. Here is my idea: I buy a 10×10 dog pen with a cover. After setting it up I cover the outer layer in plastic chicken wire so nothing can pull his head through, and line the outside with it so that way nothing can dig under. Then I can add roosts, and a small coop like area for him to get out of the wind. I can add dust bathing areas also. Does this sound like a good plan? Any other suggestions are welcome.

Like getting a 10x10 dog chain link thing? Can you find an old doghouse or something on craigslist for a more coop like coop that would be more rain, weather, and temperature resistent?

guess it depends where you live .. for a rooster where im at he loses coop privileges when he matures, and he better not kick me or he's not eating, and if he doesnt control the girls and get them in the coop fast in the evening he's not eating either lol .. i dont coddle roosters, if they can get on the program they can be real helpful, otherwise .. theres more where he came from when i need one lol ..

That looks pretty good. You'll want to make sure to fix up those cracks near the door, and figure out a way to roof it. Might want to buy one that's at least partially already roofed, as it'll be easier to roof. Probably a solid coop would be better than just a more sheltered spot. How cold are your winters?
