Rooster for my redstars?

I have 5 redstar pullets they are aprox 23 weeks old and all doing fine, all 5 have come on line and we are getting 5 eggs a day 2 of the 5 eggs are extra extra lg . having said that ,Im thinking about the next gen of layers or a game plan for when these girls become unproductive. can anyone recomend a breed of rooster for the red star? my main goal is egg production but would like to have some meaty roos for the table.thank you

Breeding sex links is a tricky thing. That special "click" or what the race horse people call "nicking" happens in the original cross, creating the RSL. That said, a quality rooster, will produce nice hens for you. You've a couple different directions you can go. A dark red rooster (RIR), a lighter red rooster (NH) or even a dominant white Rooster such as Columbian Rock (I believe), Delaware, etc.

A Buckeye would certainly pump up your meat bird offspring. Just some thoughts.

I used a White Rock over my sexlinks.
Got alot of different colors, mostly whites with some reddish on the backs and breasts, barred, red barred, partridgey colored ( I don't think it was true partridge but close), and colors that I could not begin to describe. I don't have any of the stock left, sold or traded them for other birds.

I would think any bif rooster would do though.
I've read Freds thread it is very interesting too.
