So we have a rooster and recently he’s been harassing one of the hens (one who’s going broody) he’s not even mating with her just pecking her relentlessly. We’re thinking of making him dinner cause we have a hen sitting on some eggs but I know that some animals have aggressive or even violent mating rituals. What should we do?

On closer inspection I’m definitely sure this has gotten out of hand - our poor hen is bleeding. I plan on cleaning out a shack we have, fixing it up and putting her and our broody silkie in for the time being until we get rid of him :(

separate him asap; dog crate, anything, till you've got your alternative accommodation for the victims sorted out
and separate the one that's bleeding from all the rest till it stops bleeding and/or you can cover it with blue/purple spray; they are attracted to the colour of blood and the rest may pile in on her

Replying to everyone ^
Thank you all. We have a cat cage that although may be a bit small will be good enough to move him off to his own little corner for moment. It’s strange and unfortunate to know that the rooster who runs and hides behind his hens is attacking one of them :( as much as it pains me it’ll hurt my hen even more if I let him be.

When I had a mean rooster I built a 2'x3' cage to put him in.

If you can manage something like that it would be better than a cat carrier.
I would love to do that but we have no materials to do so. I’ll just be using the cat crate (thank you I forgot what it was called) to move him over to the old shack we have where I’ll care for him individually but it doesn’t look like I’ll get to do that cause my chicken (the one being attacked) has taken to sitting there ;;

Hello I am officially looking for ways to get rid of my rooster! After a couple days of watching my dear hen is not only bleeding but looks as if she was maimed

We have put her away to be treated and although I believe she’ll be fine I don’t want to let my rooster get away with this. Any good ideas?
