Yesterday I noticed my Cream Legbar rooster standing in a hunched position. His face was very pale, and his keel bone is very defined. He has definitely lost some weight. It has been very wet the last few days, so I separated him and gave him 6 ml of Corid water in case of Coccidiosis. I removed food and water overnight to check if he has a crop issue.

This morning, his crop still had food in it. I put his food and water back in, but he was not interested in eating. He then started making strange heaving motions, and with every motion his crop convulsed upward.

His stomach was also grumbling (or that's what it sounded like), if that's even possible for a chicken. His breath isn't very stinky, but it smells very faintly like fermented feed. The color returned to his face this morning. His poops are small and green.

His posture is different too.

Other info: He has favus and is being treated with athletes foot spray. He is on whole grain layer feed, 17% protein. One of his brothers was a bit sickly, no idea what he had, but mentioning it in case it could be a genetic crop issue.

Any idea what is wrong with him? The heaving motions are really concerning me, I have never heard about anything like that. Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like he had a blockage for a while, & the feed started to decompose. I'd treat this both like an impacted crop, & sour crop.

Give him chunks of coconut oil, & some grit to get rid of the blockage? Massages will help pass the blockage. Just be sure not to accidentally vomit him?

Apple cider vinegar will help with the sour portion of this issue, & help dissolve the blockage. Be sure the grit contains probiotics, or offer probiotics in his water?

Thanks for your response! I have ACV and I can start giving that to him. Do you have any idea why he is making those strange heaving motions?
