Our roo, Spok has an irregular beak. Some of it was broken off in a cockfight when he was younger (about four years ago). He has never seemed to have any trouble with it, but tonight, he seemed to be having some trouble eating. He wasn't ravenously hungry, although he didn't have anything in his crop. He seemed to be swallowing a lot of air and was getting bubbles of spit around his beak. I felt his wishbone, to feel his weight, and he seemed kind of thin to me. I know that he has been getting food, because I have a habit of feeling their crops. They get food in the morning and the evening and are usually out of food around three o'clock. The chickens have been inside more since there is snow on the ground, although I put some hay out so that they could go outside a little. It has gone from 50 degrees to low twenties and single digits into the teens at night. He has his son in the coop, too, and he has been keeping Spok busy, although he usually stays out of Spok's way. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
