There's probably a ton of answers for this question out there, but I don't have time now to search for them. I should be sleeping in order to be up at 5:00 am to start my drive back to Indiana from SW Kansas through all the solar eclipse traffic in Missouri. What should take 13 hours could take much more.

I have a hen who has been broody for over a week now for the second time, and am wondering if hens go broody if there is NOT a rooster in the flock. Ain't nobody got time for that. TIA

Hi Tia, Yes hens will go broody with or with out their counter part. the only difference is they won't get any chicks without the fertile eggs. I currently have a broody with 8-12 eggs :barnie.... the things that happen when I'm on vacation.

Yes, they will go broody with our without a rooster. A good way to break her is to put her in an elevated wire cage (like a dog crate) with no bedding, just food and water. The reason to elevate it is so the air can get to her belly and help cool her down. Leave her there for about 3 days, then see what she does once you let her out. If she goes back to the nest, back in the broody buster she goes. If she goes out and about, rejoining the flock, her broodiness may be broken. Wishing you the best!
