appreciate your reply, thanks. I have two roosters now, very beautiful ones, going to be 5 months old, Im looking to keep them.It was a small town, not a city, but I had an in-town rooster.
Marion was an accident, who survived the slaughter of the packing peanuts by pretending to be a pullet until a week after they'd gone to freezer camp. He was so beautiful that I didn't want to cull him unless I absolutely had to so I let him stay on a promise of good behavior.
Factors that made it work:
- Marion was a Light Brahma with a pleasant, deep-toned crow.
- The coop was in a direct line between my heat pump and the neighbor's heat pump so there was a lot of white noise to mask the crowing.
- Said neighbors had a pool so the filter created more white noise during open-window season.
- The wall of the neighbor's house had few windows on that side.
- This neighbor figured that they didn't mind our rooster if we didn't mind their muscle car.
- The other neighbor close-by had grown up on a farm and would bring his visiting grandchildren over to see the chickens.
- We had a corner lot with a lot of traffic (by small-town standards), so not too quiet anyway.
I live in the city, I hear my neighbours dogs and bird chirpings. My neighbours seem supportive but still gotta find a way to keep them quiet.
They may not be so much once the crowing is all the time and/or at 4am.My neighbours seem supportive but still gotta find a way to keep them quiet.
