Rooster is acting spooked

I have a year old rooster who seems to be acting a little off the last couple of days. He won't come out of the coop with the rest of the chickens in the mornings and he hasn't free ranged all day. He's basically been behind the coop dirt bathing all day with various hens. This is unlike him. I know it could be anything, just wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

Well no one posted so I'm hoping if I add more details I might get some help.

  I have lost now 7 chickens to some kind of predator. 4 layers and 3 that were 10 weeks old. The rooster has acted strange since the first two came up missing.
  Now he crows like he is sick. It's this pitiful little crow where his usually crow was loud and all day long.
  He will not stay with his hens like he used to. He stays alone and often won't got to roost in the coop at night.
  He high steps like he's being careful where his feet land. There isn't anything visibly wrong with his feet but it looks odd and I read about maraks but I dont have any new chickens from anywhere other than here. All my chicks are incubated and raised here.
