Hello, I recently had to relocate my chickens to a relatives house. One of the chickens included a rooster. His name is Philip and he is a mottled Houdan. Before his move he would eat and just seemed happy, he would eat out of my hand or just accept any food he was offered if he was up to it or if he still had space left for more food. I have been just informed that he has stopped eating and has just been down and just looks sad. I do have to say that when he was with me, he was free ranging and had to sleep in a extra large box in the dark where the cold weather did not hit him. He now does not have the ability to free range since he is in a gated pen about 8x14ft. He has food available to him 24/7 same goes for water. The other chickens don’t bully him so my best opinion is that he misses his old home as much as I miss him. He moved their 1 week ago and the reason he had to move there is because I live in an apartment and I really can’t have him here due to a new baby coming soon and I would have been evicted if I didn’t get rid of them so I decided to give them to a relative who already has chickens and I thought that would be the best for all of them. They are 5 of them but the rest are fine. Even though they all eat way less than they did with me but sadly the most critical right now is my beloved rooster philip. I really love him and i understand he is just a chicken but at this point if you guys know anything I could do to help him even if it is to humanely let him go. Thank you.

You mentioned he had a box to keep him out of the cold weather. Is he now out in the cold?

Is it possible for you to visit him to see if he will eat for you? Also in the title you mentioned a lump on his eye. A picture would be good to determine if it looks like an injury or an illness.

Hello thank you for replying yes I have visited him 3 days ago and he hadn’t eaten anything but once I offered him something from my hand he tried to eat it and made an effort and got something in his system. Yes he is out in the cold but I live on florida and rn it is very cold and windy in the west palm beach area. My relative did make them their own room in the coop so my chickens won’t get hit by the wind so they could huddle up. I will try to get a picture so someone could help me find out what’s going on.
Thank you.
