I'm new to raising chickens and this is my first batch ever. My Rhode Island Red rooster Mr Tippy (about 1 year old) started limping 2 days ago. Yesterday he was limping noticeably and preferring to sit down on his hocks. He's has an appetite but eating less. He lives with 5 hens and they free range half the day and return to the chicken house (sand flooring) by noon when it gets too hot. We live in the tropics.
I thought at first maybe he hurt his legs jumping down from the roosting bar so I shifted it lower. It is now at about 3.5ft high.
I have checked, no bumble foot. But that's when I found today that he has flushed spots on his legs and where the legs meet the feathers, under the feathers the skin is reddish. His feet/legs feel hot to the touch.
We live in a rural area and the nearest vet is too far away.im hoping someone can tell me what might be causing this. Mr Tippy seems like he's in pain. And if anyone is familiar with any natural treatment which is my preference.
