Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. I noticed my rooster looked like the girls might have pulled some feathers off him. I picked him up and I turned him on his back. The inside of his legs are missing feathers & I can see where he's getting new ones. The thing is he has like bright red round spots where the new feather is coming in. Like a big pimple. They are all over his legs where the new feather is. I have never seen this on the hens. I also have 2 Barred rock hens that are bald on the back & vent area. I have checked them for bugs but haven't seen any but I am really wondering if this is mites or lice. I also have 3 Orpington hens in there and 2 have no feather loss. 1 just started losing some on her back. That looks like she is molting. I put blue note on the barred rocks last night. But I'm worried about the rooster. Any ideas ?? Thanks for reading this.

Hi, can you post photos of your hens and rooster?

Feather loss on the back may be from mating damage. Sometimes around the vent area, this is due to being plucked/picked.

Not sure about the feathers around the legs, hard to know what's going on there, hopefully the photos can clear some of that up.

If you are seeing pin feathers coming in, then he's molting too.

See that everyone is eating a nutritionally balanced feed and drinking well.
