I've been hanging out and supervising my chickens often and I realized my Rooster, Ares, hasn't been mating his hens. Maybe he's done it earlier in the day when I'm not there, but from my own observations, he hasn't been humping any hens. He still performs his wing-dance toward the various hens, but I haven't seen him hump anyone. He's healthy, likes to interact with the others, constantly active, but hasn't mated a single hen, at least from what I've seen. There is one hen he likes to mate with, and her name's Matteo. I believe she's a Black Star chicken, and she's very reclusivd and always runs away from him for a bit, and then lays on the floor and submits, like she knows he's going to hump her. I don't know why she's the only hen he likes? What do you guys think?
