So we've had a beautiful big Buff Orpington roo as the king of our flock for the last 5 years. We hatched him and his sister from eggs, he was very closely bonded with her, but she dropped dead about a year ago.
Our roo hasn't crowed since. He was never the noisiest, but now he is totally silent.
He seems in good health, and is making other noises, showing his other ladies the food he's found for them etc.
But I stuck half a dozen eggs in an incubator last week and candled them today to see that none of them are fertile.
What do you think is going on?
He's a wonderful, gentle big man. He has another 8 ladies to look after but the other BO was by far his favourite.
