I posted a couple of weeks ago about low fertility. So I have been watching my eggs to try to figure out why my fertility is so low. I checked a lot of what people suggested and did not find much. What I did find was the my only fertile eggs all come from one hen. I have 2 roos that are old enough to breed and 9 laying hens that all lay about an egg a day. I also have about a dozen younger hens that are not old enough to lay yet. But of my laying hens there is only one that is fertile. So why between the 2 roos are they only mating with the one hen?! Is there anything I can do besides looking for a new roo? Should I remove my roos for a while so they have no access to the hens and then re-introduce them?

Seperating them for a couple days and reintroducing them is a good idea. If that doesn't help maybe seperate 3 or 4 out hens out with one roo? I know at one time I was concerned because with the two roos in my coop as soon as one would attempt to mount a hen the other would pull him off and they did this to each other constantly.

So maybe the 2 roos are the problem? I thought because there was no fighting that I was good to go... Well if that is good then maybe the problem will solve itself. My one roo is about to move into a new coop. I have a BLRW roo which is my main roo and will stay with my laying hens. My other roo is a Frizzled Polish that I am moving into another coop with my polish hens in the next two weeks when my new coop is finished. Maybe I will move both roos out to start and then only put the BLRW roo back into the main coop. Fingers crossed that that is the issue.

It may not be that at all, I just know it's something I observed from my roos. They didn't fight, but they didn't take kindly to either one getting a little either...lol Good luck, I hope you can solve it.

I hope so. Very frustrating!!! I really want to hatch from my own barn. Right now I have 2 broodies with only 1 fertile egg! I am trying to decide about placing chicks under them. I have chicks hatching Tuesday... But that's another thread I have posted LOL!!

Any other ideas of how to get my Roos to mate with my hens?
