Rooster...or not?

My wife picked up 9 chickens a few months ago. Lately she says she hears one cackling like a rooster in the mornings. The birds are still young, how can we tell if it's not already obvious?

The tail feathers would curl down like a sickle. If you post pics, we can tell you if your bird is a rooster or not.

Well, there are some physical things to look for too. Alot of roosters have thicker legs, longer tail feathers and saddle feathers, and they do practice crowing.....cackeling is something hens will do as well. The combs are generally larger than a hens......

Are the comb and wattles red and more developed then the other chicks. Can you post a pic ?
