My rooster is getting feathers pulled out by his hens and I was wondering if I should get Rooster Booster-pick no more cover up lotion? is it effective? if not, what is your suggestion to do for him?

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I have never had any luck with the no pick sprays, lotions or even pine tar. My birds love the taste of all of these!! I have found that simple Blu-kote works very well on exposed flesh, leg scales and even broken beaks.

But as for feathers being plucked out, you might try some pinless peepers on the pluckers. I have used them on aggressive birds with great success.

Just make sure your rooster is healthy. Birds pick in sick birds. So give him a good exam to make sure he is ok. Flocks can see things you can't.

Good luck with your flock and welcome to ours!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! TwoCrows gave you some good suggestions. Also be sure that they are not over crowded and try giving them things to keep them busy.

Is your rooster younger than the girls, and maybe smaller? Did you get them all at the same time. Sometimes the hens like to bully, a young inexperienced rooster and put him in his place. When he has some maturity under his belt, they will show respect for him. You may want to partition off your coop/ run for a while so he is on one side and they on the other. Then they can't pick at him and may even lost interest in doing so.
