I have a beautiful lavender rooster .He was quite friendly and docile for a long time. In the last few weeks he has become very aggressive towards myself and my husband. He always charages at us when we go in to feed him and the hens. He has actually pecked me quite hard a fees times.I want to keep this bird as we like him very much. Anyone have any suggestions in calming him down?

I had to give one of mine a good stern "I'm in charge not you, let me put the fear of God in you" talking to one time. As dumb as they seem they really are smart. Never had a problem from him since. Now true as it is....that probably was dumb luck..... But I bet it put a smile on your face! :D;):lau

Other than that particular roo I've not had to deal with this situation but one time and nothing we did worked so he ended up in a pot... I will be following to learn some new techniques with you!

My rooster is super aggressive in the mornings when i let them out. I'm assuming it's because he cant mount the hens in the coop or run. My solution was to take a treat out. I set it right by the door so it's the first thing he runs to. When he has charged me i get eye level with him and tell him "NO" and imitate pecking him in the middle of the back with a poke from my finger. He always stops but it's always worrisome wondering if they will charge you. I have gotten to where i don't turn my back on him. Best of luck with your guy.:love

I have one that goes for me and only me, never anyone else. I just put a wire cage over him for a nice little time out while the girls eat. Now when I pick up the cage he moves away fast. He is also not on the flock at this time but in private quarters while I break in a new guy..

You got to show him who is in charge or he will just get worst. I have a bantam roo and he has attacked me a few times but I don’t back down and he hasn’t tried for about 5 months. I know someone who raised a roo sense a chick and is terrified of him they think he’s the “meanest rooster ever “ he has attacked them and spurred them a lot but I went over there for a friends b day party and I picked him up and he didn’t give me a peck well... maybe one or two but anyways all I did was I was confident and stood my ground and acted like I had no idea about him attacking people and it worked!! It was really hard to leave him there because he was stuck in a cage and never got out and I was the only one who could “handle him without dieing “ but I couldn’t keep him because I’m not allowed to have more then one rooster where I live and I already have one. Anyways sorry about the long story but my point is that you have to stand your ground if you back up that’s a sign of weakness and chickens are the total opposite of dumb so I hope this helped. :)
