My rooster, I've had since January, has always stayed in the yard, or field with the girls and kept a close eye on them. Well now our neighbors hens have caught his eye and he's left my hens. I've went down and picked him up, cooped him up and let him in the run for a few days, then let him out with the girls and back down the road he goes. Help?? I don't like to keep them up in the coop other then to sleep and lay eggs.

Are your hens aging? Have they been, well, less than interested?

If they aren't laying, or laying less frequently, some new young chicks have caught his eye.

My rooster has started sleeping in the pullets coop at night now, leaving the older gals to themselves.

I think it is sensing better fertility and likely more "interest" from the younger gals?

Or simply he wants to expand the flock and is trying to get those hens over to his place.

Last thought is, are any of your gals "alpha" hens giving him more guff than he prefers?

I think the only way you are going to prevent this is with a good fence.
