Ok, so I have this beautiful little white frizzled cochin rooster that hatched at the same time as my blue? showgirl and they were brooder companions from day 1. The little turd has been picking her top knot, not so much it bleeds but enough to break the feathers off. So he has to go.

Well here's the kicker. DD loves him. Lot of upheaval here right now since we will be moving to TN in a few months, and she is emotionally "attached" to many of these chickens. I understand that her little world is so unstable now, and that she is attached to him. He's a friendly little thing to us, and loves herding his silkies/showgirls around. But I cannot having him destroying the top knots on my showgirls.

DD is trying to buck for a separate pen for him. That would bring me up to, Speckled Sussex pen, silkie/showgirl pen, and now one crazy frizzled bantam cochin? How much room would he need? Wouldn't he be lonely? Oh and I did try him with the sussex when the sussex were small, but he didn't like them and just kept them separated out from his silkies.

What's a desperate mom to do?

Other than make him a house chicken IN YOUR DD's bedroom I'm not sure there's anything you can do. He'd be lonely in a pen by himself. Perhaps use that angle with DD. How lonely he'd be all by himself and it's better that he go to another home where he can be with friends and happy happy happy! all day long!
Sorry I'm not more help.

Ugh I have enough house chicks as it is. I doan't want a rooster in here. Nope. I know, it's hard. And under normal circumstances I'd just say, look this is how it is. But she's fragile as fairy wings right now so I'm trying to make it as easy as possible on her.

I will start talking up the lonely aspect, but you know what her answer for that is.... more cochins to go with him!!

Thanks for listening.

Tell her that he can come live at the nutty lady's house who dresses her chickens in pink and live with lots of other nutty animals.
I promise I won't dress him in pink! A blue onesy maybe, but never pink.

LOL! Maybe some denim overalls, he's all man already. 10 weeks and he's bossing everyone around and crowing every morning. I really spoiled him when he was a chick, so he's very friendly (well, to people). I just don't want another pen of chickens to move!

He's a beautiful guy and I really like him is the bad thing! Oh well, enough whining about my problems for one day! But I'll be sure to tell him about the blue onesie, maybe that will straighten him up!

Well i guess i was just raised in a harsh way. When we couldn't keep our cat anymore my mom had me take it to the pound to relinquish him. When we raised a couple turkeys and I named one, my dad made me watch him get butchered and I'm thankful, after all Tracy was the yummiest turkey ever.
I think it made be grow up a stronger person and more responsible than most people my age. It is suprising how strong someone is and you don't know until you have to cross that bridge.
It will be hard if she has to give up the roo but I think a good thing in the long run. She'll appreciate what she does have.

best of luck, moving on it's own is hard enough.
