Since I have just found out that 2 of my SLW chicks are roosters thanks to some kind folks on here, I was wondering if anybody could give me some input on the best scenario for a calm and friendly rooster. I would like to have a rooster for my flock for protection and possibly for new chicks next spring. Should I find a home for one of the roosters early on so no fighting or aggresiveness starts? Or wait a while to see the personality of both birds and choose the calmer of the 2? I have never had just one rooster. Last spring I ended up with 2 roosters and I waited to find that both of them were absolutely miserable and had to go. Any advice or experience is greatly appreciated.

Well, I don't have a lot of advice for you, but I found a web site that has a step by step plan. You could try it and please let me know if it works! http://www.ehow.com/how_8601275_raise-rooster.html

I have more roosters than you can shake a stick at due to adopting a neighbor's flock. The dominant male died and another male stepped up. He is not as aggressive as the last, but will still try to spur from time to time. Crazy thing is, he is afraid of the smallest of sticks. I just show it to him and he straightens up. I have never used it to hit him or anything! I plan on taking a towel down with me to catch him with to see if I can settle him down a bit. I do have several roosters that, if need be, can be picked up. I am sure the breed has something to do with it.
