At what age is a rooster to old to keep the hens fertile and how long on the average do most large fowl chickens live

Whenever he reaches maturity and starts mating the hens. This varies from roo to roo but is usually pretty reliable by five months. Some breeds take longer to mature. Once he starts mating, you can pretty much assume all your eggs are fertile, unless you have tons of hens and one *very happy* rooster.

I've had hatchery hens laying until 7 years, and roos of the same age still doing their jobs.
