Rooster Rehoming Dilemma - Suggestions?

Quote:
i guess i wasn't clear. i have three roosters at home now. The two roosters at the feedstore are above and beyond the ones i have at home. And they will keep them until they find homes, so i am very lucky there.

So, let's see, what can i offer in lieu of a hen . . . a nice set of ear muffs to dampen the sound of the crowing? . . . maybe a nice home theater system to drown out the sound of the crowing? . . . a hefty retainer with a lawyer to deal with their neighbors? . . . a year's worth of free medical care?

I feel for you, trying to find the best possible place for them is difficult and you kind of always wonder if you made the right decision...I was rehoming two of my bantam roos and was going to take them to the Gilcrease Bird Sanctuary here in Vegas(my mom took them instead, lucky me!).
Gilcrease a privately owned animal sanctuary(they take good care of their animals-they were clients of a veterinarian that I worked for) primarily dedicated to birds though they have other animals. The sanctuary is USDA inspected(they sell eggs from their birds to the public)and I've taken injured birds to them in the past.

If you are ever planning a trip to Vegas, it's an option!

Hum, Vegas is not such a very long ways to drive from here. i will email them now and see if they will take them.

Michelle - Thanks for the information. i will look into that.

Also thinking a last ditch effort might be taking them to animal control, if that's even a possibility. i just wanted to exhaust all other options of finding them a good home first.

Wow, thanks! They are looking for a large silkie and mine is a bantam, and they are a ways away, but i emailed them nonetheless. Who knows, they may think my guy is so cute they just have to have him.

i also posted an ad in those classifieds. Great resource!

Okay, i need some prayers here. Got an email from a silkie breeder in Buellton who knew i had a couple roos that needed homes. She got an email from someone looking for one, so connected us up. Turns out it is a woman up in Canada wanting to buy a rooster for a friend in Paso Robles. If this works out i can drop off a rooster plus visit family there to boot.

If this works out i might ask if this friend might want a couple roosters, two for the price of one, so to speak.

I tried for the past few weeks to place a beautiful cochin roo, to no avail. My problem was fighting between 2 roos. My next stop, after the normal advertising didn't work, was to place a post card at my vets office. I had luck selling a trio of Lt. Brahmas that way. the day I was to make the trip to do that, there was a turnaround in hierarchy between the boys and all has calmed down. I would try the vets bulletin board, especially if you have some Drs. that serve a rural community. Good Luck. I know it feels kinda bad. Debbie

Okay, got a home for one of my roos!

This woman up in Canada is buying one of the silkies for a friend in Paso Robles. i'm driving up there, actually to Morro Bay, on Monday to meet someone who is going to pick him up and take him to a woman as a gift. She doesn't seem to care which roo, so i'm going to give her the loudest one, Sta-Puff. He is a sweetheart, but he's got a very big mouth!

That leaves me with my buff silkie roo and the frizzle mix dude. i did email the man i'm supposed to meet Monday and asked if he knew anyone in his area that might want the other two. Also wondering if anyone on this board lives in that area and might want one. Maybe i should post in the sale section here and see what happens.

Wow, what a load off my mind!

That person is getting a GREAT rooster airheart! He is the most beautiful bright white fluff ball. I'm so bummed about him being so vocal, or I would have given him a try here at my house. You did good hatching with that one.
