Rooster Spur recurring bleeding

I have a 1 yr old Lavender Rooster. He injured one of his spurs about 3 months ago. The whole spur came off and there's just bone now. I treated it with antibiotic spray and steptic powder and it stopped bleeding. The bleeding came back about two weeks later; I repeated treatment. And again a couple weeks ago. Then yesterday, blood all over the back of our Coronation Sussex as well as all around the pen. I found him hiding in the back corner bleeding all over himself from the same darn spur. I put a wound powder on it to stop the bleeding and he is in the barn away from the hens to heal. Looking for suggestions. Should I wrap the spur in medical tape? He keeps reinjuring it.

Could you post a picture? I would probably try a protective bandage such as gauze pad plus vet wrap or duct tape, but don’t put it on too tight, and check it later in the day for circulation, in case it slides and gets tight. Or see a vet and get some cauterizing silver nitrate sticks to burn the wound.

The spur on the left in the picture is gone. The stop bleeding powder has worked but concerned putting him back with the hens will cause bleeding again. I don't know how long they take to heal up and wondering if I should keep him for 4-5 days in crate or wrap and check later today to ensure not too tight and put him back tonight.

I recommend that you put neosporin on a gauze and duct tape it over where the spur used to be, and release him. He wont be able to remove the duct tape no matter what he does. Like Eggcessive mentioned, not tight. Then about a week later, use scissors to cut the duct tape, up the leg in order to remove the duct tape and inspect the area. Repeat as necessary until it heals.

Good suggestion...will definitely try this! Thanks
