Rooster - sterile?? Is that possible??

I purchased a beautiful Rhode Island Red Rooster about a year ago, and I attempted to hatch some eggs with my stillair incubator, but,, not one hatched. I don't know how old the rooster is, although he is huge--I've started thinking that maybe he was sold because he was too old to fertilize the egg. Could this be true?

Is he doing his 'buisness'?

Did you candle the eggs to be sure that they didnt just die prior to hatching, instead of actually being infertile?

I assume it would probably be possible to have a sterile rooster, as it is with pretty much every animal I believe....

It is possible for your rooster to be sterile. However, I would rule out user error with the incubator. What was the temp/humidity? Have you had a successful hatch out of it? Did you break out or candle any of the eggs to see if there was any development at all? How old were the eggs when you put them in the bator?
Sorry for all the questions... would hate to see you get rid of your rooster for no reason

THANK YOU, for responding. No, I'd never get rid of my rooster. I attempted to incubate about 38 eggs, some were old, but, some were new, like right out of the nest. I did not candle them because I KNEW they there were chick's in there..after all, I have rooster.

This is a little about me:

I'm "Mommy" to Mama, Baby Girl, and Mama's baby boy StarLight,cuz he has a white place on his forehead, and when he's in the woods, you can see that beautiful little white spot on his head. They are the cows in the family.

Then, there are Jack and Maggie who are daddy and mommy to Taylor; We bottle fed Maggie, then she gave birth to Taylor on January 16, 2009. Next the yourg ewes,Jasmine, Crystal Star, and Andie; and Bucky, whom we also bottle fed. They are the Barbados of our growing family. Maggie is in a family way again.

We have only 1 guinea fowl left, then there is our beautiful bantam rooster who has fallen in love with one of the rhode island red hen's. We have a white rooster and 4 white hens,
3 golden pheasants (all female), and one gorgeous rhode island red rooster and his lady.

I do get eggs everyday from the RI hens and one every other day from the white hens. My understanding is they are for meat only, although, that will never happen. My plans are to get some productions reds are more RI's as I really like them. As for the pheasant's I've no idea if they will lay eggs without a man ;)around...we'll see.

Then, we have 2 gray bunnies, 6 weeks old; 1 Siamese cat, and an Australian shepherd who is excellent at keeping the coyotes away, although he was never trained to care for the sheep,he certainly tries; we pretty much keep him out of their pasture.

No children at home any more and grandkids who come to help with the animals.

If there was then it was probably a problem with the incubator, either temp or humidity could have been off that prevented them from developing to a successful hatch. I hope it's not your rooster, he sounds like a nice boy
