I have a beautiful boy about 18 weeks old. Up until 4 weeks ago I had two roosters but the other has been re-homed. The one I still have was not the dominate of the two. On the day that the other left for his new home "Shred", my rooster I kept, crowed all day. He has not crowed since. He also acts more like a hen now. Any ideas or suggestions? Will he grow out of it? My hens are starting to lay and am wondering if I ever need to be expecting little ones.

He's had a big change in his life, and needs to work it out. Also, check him very carefully at night, with a flashlight, to make sure you're not dealing with mites or lice, which can happen and will make him (everyone!) sick. Mary

That's fairly normal behavior when a submissive rooster finds himself in charge with no competition. He will probably take more time to mature fully and to get some confidence.

In the spring under increasing daylight hormones will rage, this time of year, under decreasing daylight hormones are falling, and sexually maturity slows down some. You may have to wait until next year before he begins to take his job seriously, and he's feeling his oats as the saying going.

Thank you! I was hoping it might be something like that and not that he just decided to give up the ghost.
