Ok, my boy Earl seems off the past couple of days. He is usually head leader of my flock of 13 hens and 1 young silkie roo. They are usually all following him around the property, but lately he walks around alone and none of them seem to want to be with him. He is eating and drinking, but seems uninterested in his usual antics and isn't mating. No breathing issues or apparent illness, however his comb seems to be getting darker to me (not in spots, the entire comb). I do live in a cold climate and it has been bitterly cold at nights as this is his first winter. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but do roosters want alone time sometimes??

Generally roosters do not want alone time. Is there any possibility that the cockerel has deposed him?
I highly doubt it. The other roo is much smaller and younger, he still can't even mount the standard size hens, only the silkies, and ive never even seen the two roosters get close to each other

When you say the comb is getting darker is it getting a bit more purple? I'm afraid it sounds like he is having health issues.
