The fields surrounding our house are massive. I have no idea how far in he went or how far he may have ran to even leAve oUT a treat. We have raccoons, skunks and coyote that may have happened upon him when it's dark and he is most vunerable. There are no trees so it would be unlikely he found a safe sanctuary. Really, really bummed. He was so great with my girls. We have only had him a little over a month and it only took him about 3 days to settle in and calm down. He was about the same age as my girls aND a great protector . IDK if it will upset my girls to bring in a new roo all over again. They hust started laying. I worry the personality of a new roo won't be like the one I had.
Yea, I don't have any advice for introducing a new roo. My roo was an unexpected roo (I paid for sexed chicks). At first I wasn't thrilled with the idea of a roo in my flock, but now I love it. <3 to you.
I would stop wondering, something probably got him that first night, he would of come back pretty quick to take care of his hens, every rooster is different, so no one can say if another one will work. It always seem to be the ones we like that we lose first.
