So I have a very healthy birchen cochin bantam mix who is a house favorite now. Hes under almost a year old if not a year now and unfortunately he developed a limp. He doesn't walk on the leg but still moves it when he goes to scratch the ground though the leg stays straight. Hes been in the house for 2 weeks now with no improvement but other than the limp hes very healthy, he crows quite often, preens, eats, drinks all normal chicken things except he just cant use the leg. We've checked for bumble foot and mites to which we saw nothing. He hasn't given up at all and certainly wants to go back outside but that leg is stopping that from happening. We assume he pulled something during a mating frenzy, we're looking for some advice on how to get him back on his feet and with his girls.

Is there any way to get an xray by a vet to check for a broken leg or dislocation? Have you seen any bumblefoot scabs on the bottom of his footpad, or any swelling, redness, or green bruising of the entire foot and leg? Does he hold the leg up when he walks, or does he try to put weight on the leg? Does the leg feel numb or do his toes curl under? Was he vaccinated for Mareks disease, and have you added any new chickens to your flock in the last few months?

We don't have access to a vet in my area at least none that will treat chickens. He has had zero bumblefoot signs, his foot is soft and feels exactly the same as his other. The leg still looks healthy and is warm but not hot to the touch, there's been no redness, swelling or any noticeable external changes to the leg. He will try to put weight on the leg but not much and often doesn't lift the leg but does more of a swinging motion to put it in front of him, when he does manage to bend the leg (not very often) his toes curl like they should. He was not vaccinated but so far in the last 2 to 3 weeks hes been inside its only been a limp nothing else has popped up.

The last time we added chickens was just before he came in. Since its warmed up there's been quite a bit of mating going on and he was one of the ones going at it every few minutes, he was in with a couple other roos since our flock is almost 100 strong, there is typically no fighting just a little chasing between roos. Everyone has been healthy except for the occasional limp from roosters exclusively, zeros hens are limping and we've never had a hen limp it seems to just be the occasional rooster and its usually anything that's a silkie or silkie mix which he is part silkie so we're unsure if that's a contributor with his issue currently.
