My rooster (3.5 years old) has had some swelling in his legs and feet for the last month or so. We treated for scaly leg mites and the other chickens have healed up. My rooster not so much. It doesn’t look like bumble foot which I have treated for before. We have taken him to the vet who tried antibiotics and he just kind of ended up losing weight and becoming lethargic. He has since gained some weight but his legs still look bad. I’m kind of at a loss of what is going on. He has been walking more normally but definitely not putting much weight on the more swollen looking foot and will keep it up at his side. Should I take him to a different vet or is this an age thing?

He might have articular gout. It can have different causes including feeding too much protein, having too much calcium at an early age, and others. What have you always fed him? There is not a lot the can be done, but some people try tart cherry extract capsules to see if it helps the pain. I would continue to apply vaseline to his legs to help the scaly leg mites. Here is a good article about gout:

They are fed purina layer feed and meal worms every day. I’m not sure he eats too much of the meal worms but it’s around. And other than that they get random treats and my rooster especially likes dried oats. He’s the only one exhibiting the swollen feet. Could that diet cause this?
