One of the hens I purchased turned out to be a rooster. I'm really not supposed to have a rooster in my neighborhood. I need to find him a home or be able to keep him quiet and at some point not have him fertilize any eggs because I am not interested in raising chicks. I live outside of St. Louis, MO.

Hello, Sharon, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Just because he fertilizes the eggs does not mean you will have chicks. The eggs have to be incubated for 21 days for you to get chicks.
Regardless, if you are not allowed roosters/cockerels, you should rehome him and start advertising now as it usually takes a bit of time to find someone. Good luck.

The same thing has happened to me. I posted on Backyard Chickens for some advice. One person said to eat the rooster. "Not to my taste"...... Another told me to sell a few pullets in a bundle with the rooster. Since I have too many pullets for my coop, I decided to go in that direction. I've advertised on Craigslist and have gotten a few calls. We'll see how that goes.
My rooster has begun crowing in a very soft voice so I'm beginning to get nervous about a neighbor. Luckily she's gone for a few weeks so I hope I can find him a home before she returns.
Hopefully you can let go of a few hens to he can be sold to someone who wants a "family" of chickens.
