Rats and mice would bother chicks, but I would be very surprised to have them take on a nearly full size hen.

Once years ago, I had strange marks on a head, and it turns out she stuck her head through something and pulled it back, doing the damage herself. And she did it more than once! Crazy bird.

Send us pictures of your set up, sometimes experienced eyes can see things you might over look.

Coons often try and pull the heads off of chickens, sometimes through the fence. it might be this bird got away. Coons tend to attack in the night. Fox in the daytime, but if a fox got her, she would just be gone. Weasels can get in very small holes, but they tend to kill every bird in the coop.
