Confused on one of our Welsummers. The chicken is right about 1 years old. We have always been curious if it’s a male or female. Havnt noticed it in the nesting box but it has never crowed or tried to mate. We have two other roosters with 25 other hens. This Welsummers comb and waddle is much bigger than the other Welsummers and it has spurs. Is it possible to have a rooster that never crows or mates? The chickens seems to started this past month to grow what seems to be rooster tail feathers

Can you post some photos of it?
Some hens do have hormonal problems, which can effect laying and cause them to act more like a rooster.

In the area I have marked, all the saddle feathers look rounded, which means hen, but at the same time their are darker, which is a rooster thing.

Also, the hackles look like rooster hackles, as does the comb. My best guess it is a rooster, but with hormonal problems which make it behave more like a hen.

Ok. Ya after 5 years of raising chickens I have never had this happen. This chicken continually seems to be changing more into a rooster looks wise and seems to be constantly scared. Like it knows it’s a rooster but afraid to act like it lol.
