Rooster?

We have 7 chickens and these 2 are Easter eggers that I’m worried are roosters. We aren’t allowed to have roosters unfortunately. They are 8 weeks old, how can I tell?

They look like pullets to me. I think Easter Egger males get red/rust leakage on their shoulders as they feather out. I could be wrong though, I'm very new to chickens still.

Thanks! I heard something about if their neck feathers look pointy, then they might be cockerel so I wasn’t sure. I’ll check for the red/rust color

I've noticed with some birds that the pattern/lacing on their feathers makes the feathers look pointy, but then they really aren't. It's just that pattern tricking my eyes.

I hope it’s just the pattern! I love my girls and I don’t want to have to rehome any it’s my first time having chickens. I’m glad you and others said they are pullets

I get that. My chicks are my first ones as well, and I can't imagine having to part with any.

Easter Eggers (and Americanas) are a mixed breed of chicken. They are mixed with one parent being a blue egg laying breed and one brown laying breed. The blue egg parent is most often an Ameraucana or an Araucana with the brown egg parent being any brown egg laying breed.

What this means is that Easter Eggers have a wide variety of feather colors and patterns. So some Easter Eggers can have the red/rust leakage on their shoulders that you mentioned and others don't. It also is not exclusive to just roosters as hens can also have red feathers.

Easter Eggers are the poodle mixes/doodles of the chicken world in that they both have no standard and can look like anything. However, they are far more ethical than poodle mixes.

Their neck feathers and saddle feathers will get pointy if they are roosters. Silkies are the only ones that you can't rely on that (some frizzles too). I explained it above but the red/rust colour is not a method to sex Easter Eggers.
