Roosters and their 'Honking Call'? What does it mean?

My rooster makes a honking call that at first I thought it was a flock of low-flying geese over head. I go to the coop to check and he appears just fine. Is it an alarm call? Maybe I don't see or sense the danger that he picks up. What's the theory out there on this call?
