I noticed about a week ago that his toes looked swollen, I finally caught him today and soaked his feet. Both toenails are gone and the ends of his toes are very fat looking. Toes are soft and warm, red patches on his toes and feet. Red line running up the outside of each leg?
One toe had a black scab on the end, I removed it, but it doesn't seem like bumblefoot. It bled a lot and I can't find a kernel or pus inside. He's not limping at all and acts normal. I put antibiotic ointment on the toes and he's isolated right now.

The redness is his hormones showing. The redness shows that he is able to mate and fertilize eggs.

Could he have lost both of his nails in a fight? Maybe they got infected and fell off?

Welcome to BYC. Is there any chance that his back toes may have been frost bitten ? The red line up his legs is hormonal and quite normal.

What kind of flooring/bedding? Sometimes that toe, in my experience, can have a little more issue with ammonia burns from built up manure.

I never noticed any frostbite this winter on his feet. He did lose the tips of his comb this winter to frostbite. It's been warm here for several months before his toes swelled. Bedding is pinechips and hay on plywood. Ammonia is possible, I have ducks bedding on the coop floor, but it's not wet. There is no ammonia smell, though. No water in the coop. No other chicken have any foot issues that I can see. I've never had foot issues or sickness in my flock. It's 3 years old, with birds of varying ages.
This guy is my only rooster. I did have a young roo for a while, and this guy would chase him away from the hens, but they never fought.

Just looking for advice on what, if anything I should do. I don't have a run to keep him in. My birds freely range my half acre and share my one coop. He's in a cat carrier right now, but I want to release him.
