Roosters clock is waaay off

Years ago I had a Phoenix rooster that I'm pretty sure never ever slept because he was too busy crowing. Sun up or down it was crow, crow, crow.

The good news is that as the years went by, he would crow less and less. When he was 8, I barely heard him crow 8 times a day and only for good cause rather than to hear his own voice. He lived a happy 10-1/2 years. Maybe it was all that crowing?!

Hang in there. :-)

Mine crows at nutty times too! The other night I heard him going off, and it wasn't even midnight!
Speckledhen, that's interesting about the crowing when something's up...I do not need a nightime lurking critter out there

I wouldn't take their crowing to heart too much. They just go off at every goofy thing sometimes, doesn't have to mean a predator is lurking. It could mean that of course, or another chicken could of shifted on the roost, the frogs croaking woke him up, somebody shut a car door......

I have 1 roo that will crow at all hours of the night every night. I have
3 that starts crowing close to sunup and some through out the day.
Now I have a very young EE roo that I hatched out on Dec.28,2009
that started trying to crow yesterday. I can't hear him at night but
he goes on all day long making his awkward sounds. tried telling him
today he was starting too young but he has not listened to me yet.

OR if you live within hearing distance of another roo, something lurking could set the distant roo off and the distant roo crowing will set your roo off too..... (happens to me, distant roo lives in louder neighborhood with brighter streetlights.....so my roo hears him and goes off too)

Roosters crow because a rooster's just gotta crow. Mine have consistently started crowing an hour and a half before dawn year in and year out.

But being roosters they're likely to crow at any old time of the day or night for reasons both obvious and inscrutable.

Love it! That was said so much better then all my bumbling around...a roo is a roo is a roo.

I don't mind his crowing, my husband teases but he doesn't really mind. It is my neighbor that is really starting to complain, bad thing about it the neighbors are my inlaws.

But they don't mind coming over to get eggs. Imagine that!
