I have a two sibling games (Eduardo and Sallie) that fly a lot from resource to resource. Resources are roost, water station, feed station, day roost and cover from badies (hawks). A new resource has been discovered by the games, namely the garage. The garage has the best windbreak and no hawk worries. This morning after I armed their feed station, Eduardo and Sallie flew the 120 feet from roost to feeding station, topped off their crops while I fed everyone else, and then before I could get automative garage door closed they flew back down hill into garage. They tripped laser sensor making door re-open. That makes me made. THey could not be flushed out so water and more food was left for them which will make matters worse next round.

Cool thing noticed is with Eduardo in flight I could see his tail cotton in manner I never really considered before. It is very obvious, like a sign that says follow me. A white spot between a red body and black tail that is very easy to follow even when Eduardo is flying towards a dark background. The cotton is also apparent when a rooster is courting hens. I wonder if red jungle roosters use the cotton for display in flight to keep flock together. Most domestic chickens either lack cotton or cannot fly.

How cool! Thank you for posting.

One of these days I have got to get some games....

What kind of games do you have?

American game, with actual line kept by family for very long time. Otherwise very similar to what occurs down your way.

I will attempt photographing from rear what I see when birds in flight. My description kinda poor.

Picture of Eduardo taken at night when pulled from roost. I think he is of the ginger / redquill colortype. First two images below cotton not evident. Seems he can redistribute feathers to hide it when on roost.

Right lateral apsect of whole bird.

Anterior dorsal aspect showing saddle and tail areas.

Showing Eduardo's left lateral aspect while in close proximity to Sallie (sister). Cotton is evident dorsally at base of caudal (tail) feathers.

Oddly, I know what causal means (nurse.) Subscribing for the flight pics; would love to see this!

See following links. First shows video where the cotton can almost be made out. Made at dawn with low light levels

Second linkd to thread with more videos, some of higher quality but from wrong aspect.

Tomorrow being a Saturday will enable getting good shots using a good digital camera versus a camcorder that is on the moody side.

This video taken in full sun to show cottontail of Eduardo as displayed in flight away from observer. I am still having limitations of video quality that appear related to conversion from one format to another.

This was third flight of similar distance in less than 20 minutes. He kept going wrong way. He may have been a little tired.
