I wormed my chickens on Tuesday morning and yesterday, I noticed my rooster's crow was hoarse. I have an automatic door set to close at a certain time and he stayed out past that, which has never happened before. I'm wondering if him staying out in the open air caused some sort of respiratory infection? I think he's almost 4 years old FYI. I haven't had a chance to check on him much yesterday but he seemed fine for the most part.

I have Tylan, Vetrx and Denaguard. He's also had a respiratory infection before when he was less than a year old, which is why I have all of those. Any tips on if I should try any of these? I think I'll try Denaguard? TIA.

What did you deworm with?
Could he have aspirated some of the medication?

Possible stress could have caused him to become symptomatic if he has a history of respiratory disease. If he doesn't improve and you've checked him over for any crop issues or canker inside the beak, then you can try treating him with one of the antibiotics you have on hand.

I used Valbazen. I thought he could have aspirated too, but I wasn't sure if that would've been more on the spot then gradual. I was trying to be careful and placed a little bit of medicine at a time at the bottom of his beak. I've done it like that before and he was fine.

I think the stress is more likely especially since he's older now. One of his feathers is also half white recently. I started giving the whole flock Denaguard yesterday and his crow immediately improved. I forgot to mention that one of the tip of his comb is purple, so maybe a circulation or respiratory issue?

I do have some amoxicillin for them that I've never used before. Just curious, why antibiotics? You think he might have an infection?

You had mentioned he had respiratory infection before. Depending on the respiratory disease, he may be a carrier for life, so during stressful times a bird can become symptomatic.

You're treating with Denagard (Tiamulin) which is an antibiotic. It treats Mycoplasma only in poultry, so if you are seeing improvement, then this may be what's causing his symptoms. No way to really know without testing.

I would not start him on Amoxicillin, especially if he's improving with Denagard (this points to MG being a possibility). Amoxicillin will not treat MG since it has no cell wall.

One of the tip of his comb is still purple but he seems fine otherwise. His crow is back to normal. I put him on Denaguard for 3 days.
