Hi. I was hoping someone could help me out. This is my first time having chickens and I have a couple of silly questions. I believe the australorps are roosters and the plymouth rocks are hens, am I right? Also, could anyone estimate their age for me? The people we got them from didn't know. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

I don't think they all look like roosters some have small, pale combs(females???) you can also post photos at "what breed or gender is this."

I could take pictures of my 16 week old Australorps to show you the difference. As for the Barred Rocks, my roosters have pale crowns, and your barring is fuller than a pullets should be. Barred Rocks are Sex Linked chickens, roosters and hens are very easy to tell apart.

Here's an article on the breed and its rooster and hen differing.
